Rescue and fixes

Rescue for systems that keep breaking.

When something fails in production again and again and nobody knows why, we find the cause and fix it. If the people who built it are gone, we take the system over, document it and keep it running.

Who it is for

  • Companies with a system that goes down, slows to a crawl or loses data, and no clear reason why.
  • Teams that inherited an old system nobody fully understands, from a supplier or a former employee.
  • Products that have outgrown the way they were built and now fail under real traffic.
  • Businesses that need a way back after an outage, with backups and recovery they can trust.
  • Teams that keep fixing the same problem every month and want it gone for good.

How a rescue works

Calm first, then the cause, then the fix that lasts.

  1. Stabilise

We look at what is failing right now and stop the damage first, so customers can use the product while we dig.

  2. Find the cause

We trace the problem through the code, the data and the infrastructure until we can show why it happens, not just when.

  3. Fix it properly

We change what causes the failure, add the checks that would have caught it, and tell you in plain words what was wrong.

  4. Take over, if you want

We document the system, set it up as infrastructure as code so it can be rebuilt, and keep running and improving it.

What a rescue covers

Problems in production

Errors, outages and data that goes missing, traced to their cause and fixed.

Slow systems

Pages and reports that take too long, found and made fast again.

Disaster recovery

Backups that are tested, and a written way to bring everything back if the worst happens.

Taking over old systems

Code nobody understands any more, read, documented and made safe to change.

Monitoring

Alerts that tell you something is wrong before your customers do.

A written post-mortem

What failed, why it failed and what changed, so the same problem does not come back and the team learns from it.

Questions about rescue

Short answers first, then the detail.

Can you start while the system is down?

Yes, right away: that is usually when we are called. For the systems we look after, alarms reach our engineers' phones at any hour. The first job is to stop the damage; the root cause comes right after.

Do we need documentation to start?

No. Rescue usually starts without it; writing it down is part of the work, so the next person does not start from zero.

Will you rewrite everything?

Only if it is truly the cheapest way out. Most systems can be fixed and made safe to change without starting again, and we show the costs of both.

What happens after the fix?

You choose: we hand it back to your team with the documentation, or we take the system over and keep it running on a monthly contract.

How do you charge for a rescue?

We agree it in the first call, depending on whether it is an emergency, a fixed problem to solve or an ongoing takeover.

Will you tell us what went wrong?

Yes, in writing and in plain words: what failed, why, what we changed, and what would warn you earlier next time.

Tell us what keeps breaking.

A 30-minute call about the problem. You leave with a plan, whether or not you hire us.
